"I believe that when a man wears an article that I manufacture, his self-respect is increased because he knows that it is made by an honest manufacturer, who is honest with his employees" - Hamilton Carhartt

Carhartt Women's Collection

The vast majority of Americans with Carhart or Carhartt as their last name are descendant from a man named Thomas Carhart of Cornwall, England. It was this man who came over to the Colonies in the 17th century, and began the Carhart Lineage in the United States.

But it was another man, Hamilton Carhartt of Macedon Lock, New York who made the name famous, and synonymous with the highest quality, best-in-class workwear. His entrepreneurial spirit was reflected in the modification of his last name from Carhart to Carhartt so his products would stand out from others similarly named. It was this same entrepreneurial spirit which inspired him to produce and sell work clothing for Railroad workers. This business soon evolved into the working man's clothing company we know today as Carhartt Clothing.

Constructed with premium fabric and detail, Carhartt has set the industry standards for quality, ruggedness, and durability. Today, the Carhartt Workwear product line has expanded from the traditional outerwear pieces to a complete product line for warm and cold weather alike that includes jeans and work pants, shirts, sweats, shorts, tees, work boots and accessories. Just as Hamilton Carhartt began four generations ago, Carhartt will continue to manufacture the most rugged and durable clothing for generations to come.
